Podcasting FAQ

What is podcasting?

Podcasting is a bit like a recorded radio program. The technical definition is that it is an online way of distributing regularly updated media. In practice what this means is that media (in our case audio sermons) are created regularly and put up on our website. You subscribe to a 'feed' (just a list of the sermons) with a program known as an aggregator. An aggegator is just a program that runs on your computer and downloads the items in the feed for you automatically.

Can you give me some recommended aggregators?

Sure. Below is a short list of free programs that will do the job.

Do I need an ipod?

No. An ipod is in no way required to
download and listen to a podcast. However, when used in conjuction with iTunes, an ipod works very well with podcasting. iTunes automatically downloads the lastest episodes to your computer, and then copies them to your iPod when you sync. This means that you can have many on-demand programs with you in your pocket!

How do I get up and running?

This example will show you how to subscribe to our podcast using iTunes. Most other aggregators will work in a similar way.

  1. Ensure you have downloaded and installed iTunes.
  2. Navigate your browser to the sermons page.
  3. Right click on the RSS icon at the bottom of the page.
  4. Select "Copy Shortcut" (for internet explorer) or "Copy Link Location" (for Firefox).
  5. In iTunes, select "Advanced"->"Subscribe to Podcast".
  6. Paste into the URL box the url you copied in step 4.
  7. Click Ok. iTunes should automatically read the feed and start downloading the latest sermon.
